[Smartphones] | The design Apple never though of | Oppo Find X
New Oppo Find X! |
After Vivo launched the magnificent NEX smartphone, I guess it was Oppo's turn to dazzle the consumers. They have come up with something which I like to call "the best looking smartphone I've ever seen in my life". Alright fine, its real name is the Oppo Find X. Even though the name sounds like a question on your mathematics paper, the phone itself is dope AF!
Oppo has come up with a solution to the notch which even Apple didn't think of when they were developing their phone. They have managed to put a retractable tray which not only carries the front camera (like the Vivo NEX), but the rear cameras well. It slides out when you launch the camera app. It's so Dope!
Apple never thought of this! |
The standard specs include:
- A Snapdragon 845 processor
- 8 GB RAM
- Up to 256 GB storage
- ColorOS running on android 8.1
- 3700 mAh battery with Oppo VOOC charging (no wireless charging though).
The rear of the tray houses a dual camera setup with a 16 and 20 Megapixel sensors for your portrait bokeh and all that. Front camera is a 25 megapixel sensor coupled with a couple of 3D face scanning sensors on the front, very much similar to what we find on the iPhone X.
This was already leaked? I hadn't noticed! |
Oppo has decided to remove the fingerprint sensor from their phone and only rely on face scanning for security. The motorized tray slides out when you want to unlock your phone, looks at your face and authenticates you, and auto hides once the phone has been unlocked. Opposes the tray can be deployed in the matter of 0.5 seconds, which is believable as it was very fast in operation.
Oppo seems to be very confident about their face unlock making is a must have already remove the fingerprint sensor from another one of their devices, the realme one. But it's simply a mid range phone and I don't "find" it all that interesting (phun intended). This baby is a 2018 flagship like all its ancient 'Find' predecessors.
Speaking of 2018 flagships, I can't find a headphone jack on the Find X. It's not surprising, but definitely annoying.

Beauty! |
The display is a fantastic Amoled panel manufactured by Samsung themselves. It's a curved display just like the Galaxy S9, and looks amazing. But only comes in at 1080p resolution, but it's good enough. Samsung themselves ship their phones with displays downscaled to 1080p out-of-the-box anyway.
Oppo is planning to launch this phone globally with carrier support for the United States customers. This is not available more affordable than the other premium flagship devices of the market like the Samsung Galaxy S9 or the iPhones. I would guess this phone would sell for anywhere near 650 USD.
So there you go, your first look at the Oppo find X. Tell me if you "find" it interesting down in the comments below. OK I'm gonna stop doing that!
